Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
Sauce: 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1 1/2 cups boiling water
Brownies: 1 cup all purpose flour 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt 1 large egg, beaten to blend 1/3 cup milk 2 tbsp. butter, softened 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Directions
For Sauce: Whisk together brown sugar, cocoa and boiling water in a medium bowl until smooth. Cover and keep warm while preparing brownies.
For Brownies: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease the inside of a 1 1/2 quart baking dish. Stir together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Whisk together egg, milk, butter and vanilla in a small bowl until well blended. Pour over the flour mixture and stir until evenly moistened. Fold in the chocolate chips. Pour the batter into the prepared dish. Pour the warm sauce over the batter. Do not stir. Bake brownies about 35 to 40 minutes until the brownie is firm and floats in the sauce. Remove the pan from the oven and let the brownies stand 10 minutes. Cut brownies into squares, spoon sauce over and serve.
Serves 6 to 8.
