6 tbsp. melted butter

Middle Layer:
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup melted butter
1 ounce unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
1 large egg
2/3 cup all purpose flour
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 cup milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Frosting:
1 ounce chopped unsweetened chocolate
2 tbsp. softened butter
1 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 tbsp. hot water

Directions
For the Bottom Layer:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Stir together oats, flour, brown sugar, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl. Stir in melted butter. Pat mixture into the bottom of an 11x7 inch baking dish. Bake 10 minutes.

For Middle Layer:
Beat together sugar, butter and melted chocolate in a medium bowl. Stir together flour, baking powder and salt in a small bowl. Stir together milk and vanilla in a small bowl. Beat into chocolate mixture alternately with flour mixture. Fold in nuts. Spread batter over bottom layer. Bake 25 minutes. Transfer baked brownies to a rack and cool completely.

For Frosting:
Melt chocolate with butter in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring. Remove pan from heat. Stir in powdered sugar and vanilla. Blend in hot water to form a thickly pourable consistency. Pour over cooled brownies and let set. Cut brownies into bars.

Makes about 2 dozen brownies.
