Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
Brownies: 21.5 ounce package fudge brownie mix 1/2 cup water 1/4 cup vegetable oil 1 large egg 2 tsp. instant espresso powder 1 tsp. vanilla extract
Filling: 1/4 cup butter, softened 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 large egg 2 tsp. instant espresso powder 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 cup chopped walnuts 12 ounces chopped bittersweet chocolate
Glaze: 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips 1 tbsp. butter 1/8 tsp. instant espresso powder 2 tsp. milk
Directions
For Brownies: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking pan. Stir together brownie mix, water, oil, egg, espresso powder and vanilla in a large bowl until smooth. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Bake brownies 30 minutes.
For Filling: Combine butter and brown sugar in a large bowl. Beat until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, espresso powder and vanilla until well blended. Stir in walnuts and bittersweet chocolate. Spoon the filling evenly over the baked brownies. Bake about 17 to 20 minutes until the filling is lightly browned.
For Glaze: Combine chocolate chips and butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir until melted and smooth. Whisk in espresso powder and milk. Drizzle the glaze over the brownies. Transfer to a rack and cool completely. Cut into bars.
Makes about 3 to 4 dozen brownies.
