Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
3/4 cup diced butter 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate 2 cups sugar 4 large eggs 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1/2 cup cocoa powder 2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips, divided 2 tsp. solid vegetable shortening
Directions
Combine butter and unsweetened chocolate in a small saucepan. Melt over low heat, stirring, until smooth. Cool. Transfer to a large bowl. Beat in sugar and eggs until smooth. Stir together flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Gradually add to chocolate mixture. Stir in 3/4 of chocolate chips. Cover and refrigerate 2 hours. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Drop cookie dough by tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto greased baking sheets. Bake 7 to 9 minutes until edges are set and tops are slightly cracked. Cool on pan 2 minutes. Transfer to racks and cool completely. Combine shortening and remaining chocolate chips. Microwave until melted. Stir until smooth. Drizzle over cookies. Let stand 30 minutes until chocolate is set. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
Makes about 6 dozen cookies.
