Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
2 cups brown sugar 2 cups all purpose flour 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 cup milk 1 large egg 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips 1/2 cup chopped walnuts 1/4 cup unsweetened flaked coconut
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 13x9 inch baking pan. Stir together the brown sugar and flour in a large bowl. Cut in the butter until coarse crumbs form. Reserve 1 cup of the crumb mixture. To remaining mixture in the bowl, add baking powder, salt, vanilla, milk and egg and mix with a fork. Stir until a smooth batter forms. Pour batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture over batter. Stir together the chocolate chips, walnuts and coconut in a small bowl. Sprinkle over the batter. Spread topping evenly over the batter with a spatula. Bake brownies about 35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Transfer pan to a rack and cool brownies completely. Cut into bars with a sharp knife. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
Makes about 24 brownies.
