Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
11 cups cubed white bread 1/2 cup butter 1 large onion, peeled and chopped 2 tsp. crumbled, dried rosemary 1/2 tsp. pepper 1 1/4 cups chopped celery 1 Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored and chopped 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley leaves 1 tsp. dried sage 1 tsp. dried thyme 3/4 pound sweet Italian sausage, casings removed 1/2 cup chicken broth
Directions
Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Spread bread cubes on a sheet pan. Bake about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until bread cubes are dry. Transfer bread to a large bowl. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium low heat. Add onion and cook about 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender. Add rosemary and pepper. Cook 1 minute, stirring. Add celery and apple and cook, stirring, 2 minutes. Stir in parsley, sage and thyme and stir 30 seconds. Stir the mushroom mixture into the bread cubes. Add sausage to the same skillet and cook over medium high heat until sausage starts to brown, breaking up clumps. Add the sausage to the bread cubes and toss well to blend. Stir in broth. Cool completely before stuffing turkey.
Makes about 12 cups stuffing.
