Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
1 cup water 1 cup margarine, divided 3 ounces chopped unsweetened chocolate, divided 2 cups all purpose flour 2 cups sugar 2 large eggs 1/2 cup sour cream 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 6 tbsp. milk 4 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease and flour a 15x10 inch jelly roll pan. Combine water, 1/2 cup margarine and 1 1/2 ounces unsweetened chocolate in a medium saucepan. Heat to a boil, stirring until chocolate is melted. Remove pan from the heat and Stir in flour and sugar. Add eggs, sour cream, baking soda and salt and mix well. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake 20 to 25 minutes. Meanwhile, Combine remaining 1/2 cup margarine, milk and remaining 1 1/2 ounces unsweetened chocolate in a large saucepan. Heat to a boil, stirring until chocolate is melted. Remove pan from the heat and add powdered sugar. Beat until smooth. Stir in vanilla. Spread frosting mixture over the warm cake and spread evenly. Sprinkle chopped nuts over the top of the cake. Cool cake completely before cutting into squares.
Makes about 2 dozen squares.
