14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk 1/2 cup lemon juice 1 tsp. finely grated lemon peel 2 large egg yolks one 8 or 9 inch prepared graham cracker crust or baked pie crust 2 large egg whites 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar 4 tbsp. sugar
Directions
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Stir together condensed milk, lemon juice, lemon peel and yolks in a medium bowl until thickened. Pour lemon mixture into the pie shell. Beat egg whites with cream of tartar in a medium bowl to soft peaks. Beat in sugar 1 tbsp. at a time on medium speed. Continue beating until stiff, glossy peaks form. Spread the meringue evenly over the pie, covering completely to edges. Bake 12 to 15 minutes until meringue is lightly browned. Cool pie completely before slicing and serving. Store pie covered and refrigerated.
