Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1/4 cup brown sugar 1 tbsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt 3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp. ground ginger 1/4 tsp. ground allspice 1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening 1/2 cup chopped pecans 3/4 cup mashed canned sweet potatoes 1/2 cup milk
Directions
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Stir together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, ginger and allspice in a medium bowl. Cut in the shortening until coarse crumbs form. Stir in the pecans. Stir together the sweet potatoes and milk in a medium bowl until smooth. Add to the flour mixture and stir until the dough forms into a ball. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead 10 to 12 times. Roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thick. Cut out biscuits with a 2 1/2 inch floured biscuit cutter. Arrange the biscuits on an ungreased sheet pan, spacing 2 inches apart. Bake the biscuits about 12 to 14 minutes until the tops and bottoms are golden brown. Serve biscuits warm or at room temperature.
Makes about 1 dozen biscuits.
