Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
8 ounces cream cheese, softened 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract, divided 1/2 cup chopped walnuts 16 ounce loaf unsliced french bread 4 large eggs 1 cup heavy or whipping cream 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg 12 ounce jar apricot preserves 1/2 cup orange juice
Directions
Beat together cream cheese and 1 tsp. vanilla until fluffy. Stir in nuts. Cut bread into 10 to 12 1 1/2 inch thick slices. Cut a slit hirizontally in each slice. Fill each pocket with 1 1/2 tbsp. cream cheese mixture. Stir together eggs, cream, 1/2 tsp. vanilla and nutmeg in a small bowl. Dip the filled bread slices in egg mixture to coat completely. Cook on a lightly greased griddle until golden brown. Combine preserves and orange juice in a small saucepan. Heat, stirring, until preserves are melted. Drizzle over french toast and serve.
Makes about 10 to 12 slices.
