2 1/4 cups all purpose flour 2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. ground cloves 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1 tsp. ground ginger 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg 1/2 tsp. ground allspice 1/4 tsp. salt 3/4 cup butter, softened 1 cup dark brown sugar 1 large egg 1/4 cup molasses granulated sugar for rolling
Directions
Sift together flour, baking soda, cloves, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and allspice in a medium bowl. Stir in salt. Beat together butter and brown sugar in a large bowl until creamy. Beat in egg and molasses. Add flour mixture and mix until well blended. Cover and refrigerate dough at least 4 hours. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a cookie sheet. Roll the dough with your hands into walnut-sized balls. Place granulated sugar in a small bowl. Roll dough balls in sugar to coat and place 2 inches apart on prepared pan. Bake 8 to 10 minutes until just set(cookies will puff while baking, then fall during cooking to form a crinkle). Cool cookies on racks. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
