Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour 2 tbsp. baking powder 1 tbsp. sugar 2 tsp. cayenne pepper 1/2 tsp. salt 1 cup grated sharp Cheddar cheese 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese 2/3 cup cold solid vegetable shortening, diced 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
Directions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Butter a large sheet pan. Sift together flour and baking powder in a medium bowl. Stir in sugar, cayenne and salt. Add Cheddar and Parmesan. Cut in shortening until coarse crumbs form. Stir in buttermilk until moist clumps form. Gather dough into a ball and knead until smooth. Roll out dough on a floured surface to 3/4 inch thick. Cut out biscuits with a 3 inch round cutter. Reroll scraps and cut out additional biscuits. Transfer biscuits to the prepared pan. Bake about 15 minutes until puffed and golden. Serve warm.
Makes about 9 biscuits.
