Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
Steaks: 1 tbsp. chili powder 1 tsp. ground cumin 1 tsp. pepper 1/8 tsp. ground allspice 1/2 tsp. sugar 1 1/2 tsp. mashed garlic 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. worcestershire sauce two 6 to 7 ounce filet mignon
Sauce: 1 1/4 cups water 1 1/2 tbsp. worcestershire sauce 1/2 tsp. tomato paste 2 large cloves garlic, thinly sliced
Directions
For Steaks: Stir together chili powder, cumin, pepper, allspice, sugar, mashed garlic, salt and worcestershire in a small bowl. Rub spice mixture over top and bottom of steaks. Place steaks on a plate and loosely cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate at least 1 hour and up to 24 hours. Preheat oven to 500 degrees. Transfer steaks to a baking pan and roast about 20 minutes for medium-rare. Transfer steaks to a plate and let stand 5 minutes.
For Sauce: While steaks are roasting, combine water, worcestershire, tomato paste and garlic in a small saucepan. Heat to a simmer. Simmer about 20 minutes until liquid is reduced to about 1/3 cup and garlic is very tender. Pour mixture into pan used for roasting steaks and bring to a boil, scraping bottom of pan. Strain sauce into a small bowl.
Slice steaks and serve with sauce.
Serves 2.
