Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
Syrup: 1/2 cup sugar 1/3 cup water 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
Toast: 1/2 cup milk 2 large eggs 1 tbsp. sugar pinch ground cinnamon four 1 inch thick slices day-old bread 2 tbsp. butter
Directions
For Syrup: Combine sugar, water and cinnamon in a small saucepan. Stir over low heat until sugar dissolves. Increase heat and boil 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Cool.
For Toast: Whisk together milk, eggs, sugar and cinnamon in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, about 2 minutes until slightly thickened-don't boil. Place bread slices in a 9 or 10 inch baking pan and pour milk mixture over, turning bread over to coat. Let soak 3 minutes. Melt butter in a large skillet. Add bread slices and cook over medium-high heat until golden brown, about 3 minutes per side. Heat syrup to a simmer and serve with toast.
Serves 2 to 4.
