2 cups all purpose flour 4 tsp. baking powder 2 tsp. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar 1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening 2/3 cup milk
Directions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Lightly grease a cookie sheet. Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and cream of tartar in a large bowl. Cut in vegetable shortening until coarse crumbs form. Add milk and stir until a dough forms. Knead dough slightly until smooth. Roll out dough to 1/2 inch thick. Cut dough into 2 inch rounds with a floured biscuit cutter. Reroll and cut scraps to form more biscuits. Transfer the dough rounds to the prepared pan and bake about 10 minutes until golden brown.
Makes about 18 to 20 biscuits
