Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
1 cup butter 8 ounces chopped semisweet chocolate 1 1/2 tsp. instant coffee powder 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract 1/3 tsp. almond extract 3 cups sugar 6 large eggs 3/4 tsp. salt 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour 3/4 cup chopped walnuts, divided
Directions
Combine the butter and chocolate in the top of a double boiler over simmering water. Melt, stirring frequently, until smooth. Remove from over water and cool to room temperature. Stir in coffee powder, vanilla and almond extract.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 9x13 inch baking pan. Line bottom of pan with wax paper. Beat together sugar, eggs and salt in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in flour on low speed. Blend in chocolate mixture. Fold in half of walnuts. Pour batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle remaining walnuts over the batter. Bake about 45 to 50 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cut around edges of brownies and invert pan onto a plate. Discard wax paper and turn brownies right side up. Cut brownies into 12 squares and serve warm.
Makes about 12 brownies.
