Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
Pudding: 8 cups cubed day-old sourdough bread 1 cup raisins 4 cups milk 3 large eggs 1 1/2 cups sugar 1 tbsp. vanilla extract 3 tbsp. melted butter
Sauce: 6 tbsp. butter 3 tbsp. dark rum 1 cup brown sugar
Directions
For Pudding: Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Combine bread cubes, raisins and milk in a large bowl. Let stand 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Beat together eggs, sugar and vanilla in a medium bowl until fluffy. Mix into bread mixture. Pour melted butter into the bottom of a 13x9 inch baking pan. Spoon bread mixture over. Bake about 55 minutes until pudding is set and browned. Let stand 15 minutes. Cut pudding into 12 squares and serve warm with sauce.
For Sauce: Combine butter, rum and brown sugar in a large skillet. Heat to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and simmer sauce about 3 minutes until thickened.
Serves 12.
