Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
1 large onion, peeled and chopped 4 cloves garlic, peeled and minced 2 tbsp. butter 1 medium carrot, peeled and finely chopped 1 stalk celery, finely chopped 1 1/2 pounds ground chuck 1 tbsp. chili powder 1 tsp. ground cumin 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. pepper 14.5 ounce can chopped tomatoes, drained 1/2 cup red wine 2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce 1 1/2 tbsp. brown sugar hamburger or Kaiser buns
Directions
Combine onion, garlic and butter in a large skillet over medium high heat. Cook about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onion starts to brown. Add carrot and celery and cook about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened. Add beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking up clumps. Add chili powder, cumin, salt and pepper. Cook 2 minutes, stirring frequently. Puree canned tomatoes in a food processor and add to the skillet along with wine, Worcestershire and brown sugar. Bring to a boil. Boil about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce is thickened. Divide sloppy Joes between buns and serve.
Serves 4 to 6.
