Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
Dough: 2 cups warm water(110 to 115 degrees) 2 packages active dry yeast 1/2 cup sugar 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 large egg 1/2 cup melted margarine 6 1/2 cups all purpose flour
Filling: 1 1/2 pounds ground beef 20 ounce can sauerkraut, drained 1 small onion, peeled and thinly sliced 1 slice cheddar or swiss cheese
Directions
For Dough: Stir together water and yeast. Let stand 5 minutes until foamy. Mix together sugar, salt, egg, margarine and flour in a large bowl. Add yeast mixture and stir to combine. Cover and refrigerate 4 hours.
For Filling: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine beef and onion in a large skillet. Cook until beef is browned. Drain grease. Stir in sauerkraut. Cool. Roll out dough 1/4 inch thick. Cut into 6x6 inch squares. Place 1 slice cheese on each dough square. Top with beef mixture. Fold and seal dough over filling. Bake 30 minutes until golden brown.
Serves 6 to 8.
