Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
Crust: 1/2 cup butter 2 ounces chopped unsweetened chocolate 1 cup sugar 1 cup all purpose flour 1 cup chopped almonds 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. vanilla extract
Filling: 6 ounces cream cheese, room temperature 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup butter, room temperature 2 tbsp. all purpose flour 1 large egg 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract 1/4 cup chopped almonds 6 ounce package semisweet chocolate chips 2 cups mini marshmallows
Topping: 1/4 cup butter 1/4 cup milk 2 ounces cream cheese 1 ounce chopped unsweetened chocolate 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar 1 tsp. vanilla extract
Directions
For Crust: Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking dish. Combine chocolate and butter in a small saucepan. Melt over low heat and stir until smooth. Stir together sugar, flour, almonds and baking powder in a medium bowl. Stir in melted chocolate mixture and vanilla until a crumbly dough forms. Press crust mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared dish.
For the Filling: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat together cream cheese, sugar, butter, flour, egg and vanilla in a large bowl until fluffy. Stir in almonds. Spread the filling evenly over the prepared crust. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the filling. Bake about 30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Sprinkle marshmallows over bars and bake an additional 2 minutes.
For Topping: Combine butter, milk, cream cheese and chocolate in a large saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring until smooth. Stir in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth. Pour the topping over the bars and swirl with the tip of a knife. Transfer dish to a rack and cool until topping is set. Cut into bars.
Makes about 2 dozen bars.
