Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
2 cups self rising flour, sifted 2/3 cup solid vegetable shortening 3/4 to 1 cup buttermilk
Directions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Grease a large sheet pan. Combine flour and shortening in a large bowl. Cut in shortening until coarse crumbs form. Add enough buttermilk to form a soft, slightly sticky dough. Shape dough into a ball. Transfer to a floured surface and knead with floured hands until dough is smooth and flexible. Roll dough out to 1/2 inch thick on a floured surface. Cut into rounds with a biscuit cutter or floured glass. Place the biscuits on the prepared pan. Bake biscuits about 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown. Serve hot.
Makes 1 1/2 to 2 dozen biscuits.
