1 large egg 3 tbsp. solid vegetable shortening 1 cup milk 3 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour 1 1/3 cups sugar 1 1/4 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9x9 inch baking pan. Combine egg, shortening, milk, unsweetened chocolate, vanilla, flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda in a blender. Blend 30 seconds on high speed. Scrape down sides and blend 5 seconds. Transfer to prepared pan. Bake 35 minutes until toothpick comes out clean. Remove cake from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over top. Place a pan over top of cake to lock in heat and soften chocolate chips. Spread chocolate evenly over top of cake. Sprinkle with nuts. Serve warm.
