Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
Filling: 1 1/2 pounds peaches, peeled, pitted and wedged 1 1/2 pounds plums, halved, pitted and wedged 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 tbsp. cornstarch 1 tsp. vanilla extract
Topping: 1 1/3 cups all purpose flour 3 tbsp. sugar 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/4 cup cold butter or margarine, diced 2/3 cup buttermilk 1 tbsp. sugar 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 1/4 cup sliced almonds
Directions
Filling: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix together fruit, sugar, cornstarch and vanilla. Spoon into a 2 inch deep 2 quart baking dish and bake 15 minutes or until hot and bubbly.
Topping: Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder and soda. Cut in butter until coarse crumb consistency. Drop by heaping tbsps. over fruit. Stir together 1 tbsp. sugar and nutmeg and sprinkle over fruit. Sprinkle with almonds. Bake 20 to 25 minutes until batter topping is golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.
Serves 6 to 8.
