Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
1 cup butter 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 2 cups sugar 4 large eggs, divided 1 1/2 cups plus 1/3 cup all purpose flour 1/3 cup chopped almonds 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk 1/2 tsp. almond extract 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips 1 cup drained, chopped maraschino cherries
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 13x9 inch baking pan. Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Add cocoa and stir until smooth. Remove the pan from the heat. Stir in sugar, 3 eggs, 1 1/2 cups flour and almonds. Pour into the prepared pan. Bake 20 minutes. Whisk together the remaining egg, remaining 1/3 cup flour, condensed milk and almond extract in a medium bowl. Pour the mixture over the baked cake layer. Sprinkle the chocolate chips and cherries over the top. Bake an additional 20 to 25 minutes until edges are golden brown. Transfer pan to a rack and cool bars completely. Rerfrigerate at least 6 hours before cutting into bars. Store bars in the refrigerator.
Makes about 4 dozen bars.
