Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
1 cup plus 2 tbsp. margarine, room temperature 2 cups brown sugar 2 large eggs 3 cups rolled oats 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour 4 tsp. vanilla extract, divided 1 tsp. baking soda 1 1/2 tsp. salt, divided 2 cups chopped walnuts, divided 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk 12 ounce package semisweet chocolate chips
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 10x15 inch baking pan. Cream together 1 cup margarine and brown sugar in a large bowl. Add the eggs one at a time, beating after each addition. Blend in the oats, flour, 2 tsp. vanilla, baking soda and 1 tsp. salt. Stir in 1 cup walnuts. Press 2/3 of the oat mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan. Combine the condensed milk and chocolate chips in the top of a double boiler over simmering water. Stir frequently until the chocolate is melted and smooth. Remove the chocolate from over the water and stir in the remaining 1 cup walnuts, 2 tbsp. margarine, 2 tsp. vanilla and 1/2 tsp. salt. Spread the chocolate mixture over the oat crust. Sprinkle the remaining oat mixture over the chocolate. Bake about 25 to 30 minutes until the topping is golden. Cool completely before cutting into bars.
Makes about 4 dozen bars.
