Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
1 1/2 pound ground beef 1 large egg, beaten to blend 1 cup soft breadcrumbs 1/4 cup milk 2 tbsp. dry onion soup mix 1/8 tsp. pepper 2 tbsp. vegetable oil 2 cups canned chopped tomatoes 1/4 cup cold water 2 tbsp. all purpose flour 1 tbsp. beef flavored gravy 1 1/2 cups sliced carrots 2 medium onions, peeled and quartered 1 cup sliced celery
Directions
Combine beef, egg, breadcrumbs, milk, soup mix and pepper in a large bowl. Form into 8 to 10 large meatballs. Heat oil in a large skillet. Add meatballs and brown. Reserve meatballs. Drain fat from skillet. Add tomatoes to skillet. Stir together water, flour and gravy in a small bowl. Add to tomatoes in skillet. Cook until thickened and bubbly, 2 to 3 minutes. Add meatballs, carrots, celery and onions. Cover and simmer 15 minutes. Pour mixture into a greased 2 quart casserole dish. Cover and bake 60 minutes until vegetables are tender.
Serves 4 to 6.
