Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
Sauce: 3/4 cup dark brown sugar 1/4 cup cocoa powder 1 cup water 1 cup heavy or whipping cream 2 tbsp. vanilla extract 1/2 tsp. instant coffee granules pinch salt
Brownie Layer: 1 cup all purpose flour 3/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup cocoa powder 2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 cup buttermilk 1/2 cup melted butter 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1/2 cup chopped toasted pecans
Directions
For Sauce: Combine sugar, cocoa, water, cream, vanilla, coffee granules and salt in a large saucepan. Heat to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally until smooth. Remove from heat, cover and keep warm.
For Brownie Layer: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sift together flour, cocoa and baking powder in a large bowl. Stir in sugar and salt. Add buttermilk, melted butter, vanilla and pecans and stir until blended. Spread batter in a greased 8x8 inch baking pan. Pour hot sauce over top. Bake 35 to 40 minutes until top is firm and dry to the touch(brownie layer will rise and sauce will sink). Cool 15 minutes in pan on a rack. Serve warm.
Serves 4 to 6.
