Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
Spareribs: 6 to 8 pounds spareribs, cut into serving size pieces of 2 to 3 ribs each 1 cup chopped onion 1/2 cup white vinegar 2 tsp. salt 2 tsp. ground allspice
Honolulu Sauce: 4 tbsp. all purpose flour 2 tbsp. curry powder 2 tbsp. vegetable oil 2 cups pineapple juice 2 tbsp. lemon juice 1 small onion, peeled and grated 2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
Directions
For Spareribs: Place spareribs in a large pot. Add enough cold water to cover ribs. Add onion, vinegar, salt and allspice. Cover and heat to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer about 90 minutes until ribs are tender. Drain ribs.
Prepare grill. Place ribs in a single layer on an oiled grill rack. Brush all over with Honolulu sauce. Grill ribs, turning and basting frequently with sauce, 15 to 20 minutes until glazed, crisp and browned.
For Sauce: Stir together flour, curry powder and vegetable oil in a small saucepan. Cook over medium-low heat until mixture is bubbly. Stir in pineapple juice, lemon juice, grated onion, salt and ginger. Cook, stirring constantly, until sauce thickens and boils. Boil 1 minute.
Serves 8.
