Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
3 1/2 pounds country style pork spareribs, cut into 1 1/2 inch cubes 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. pepper 3 tbsp. vegetable oil 6 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped 4 green onions, chopped 2 tbsp. peeled, chopped fresh ginger 14 ounce can chicken broth 1/3 cup soy sauce 1 tbsp. dark brown sugar 1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes 1/4 tsp. Chinese 5 spice powder 1 1/2 tbsp. cornstarch
Directions
Season cubed pork with salt and pepper. Heat oil in a large pot over medium high heat. Add half of pork to pot and brown on all sides. Transfer pork to a large bowl. Brown remaining pork. Transfer to the bowl. Add garlic, green onions and ginger to the pot and cook, stirring, 1 minute. Return pork to pot. Add 1 1/2 cups broth, soy sauce, sugar, crushed red pepper flakes and 5 spice powder and heat to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer about 75 minutes until pork is very tender. Stir together remaining broth and cornstarch in a small bowl until smooth. Stir cornstarch mixture into pork. Simmer about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
Serves 6 to 8.
