Halloween Black Cat Cupcakes with Fluffy Frosting

Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
1/4 cup egg whites 1 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar 1/3 cup water 1 tsp. vanilla extract 2 drops red food coloring 2 drops yellow food coloring 12 baked and cooled cupcakes 12 black gumdrop candies
Directions
Combine egg whites, sugar, cream of tartar and water in the top of a double boiler over simmering water. Beat egg white mixture 1 minute. Increase heat on double boiler to medium high and beat mixture an additional 7 minutes on high speed. Remove frosting mixture from over water and add vanilla. Beat another 2 minutes on high speed. Stir in red and yellow food colorings. Frost cupcakes. Cut each gumdrop horizontally into 3 rounds. Use the smallest round for the cat's head, the largest round for the body and cut the ears and tail from the remaining round. Store cupcakes in an airtight container.
Makes 12 cupcakes.
