Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
2 tbsp. melted margarine 1 cup sugar, divided 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 cup all purpose flour 8 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder, divided 1 tsp. baking powder 3/4 tsp. salt, divided 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts 1 2/3 cup boiling water
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Blend together melted margarine, 1/2 cup sugar and vanilla in a medium bowl. Sift together flour, 3 tbsp. cocoa powder, baking powder and 1/2 tsp. salt. Add to batter alternately with milk. Mix well and stir in nuts. In a separate bowl, mix together 1/2 cup sugar, 5 tbsp. cocoa, 1/4 tsp. salt and boiling water. Transfer mixture to a 10x6 inch baking dish. Drop batter by tablespoonfuls on top. Bake 40 to 45 minutes until top of cake is set. Serve warm.
This cake, when baked, forms a chocolate sauce on the bottom with the cake on top.
Serves 6.
