Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
Brownies: 1 cup plus 2 tbsp. butter 9 ounces chopped semisweet chocolate 1 1/2 ounces chopped unsweetened chocolate 1 cup plus 2 tbsp. sugar 3 large eggs 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract 1 cup all purpose flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 cup chopped walnuts 1/3 cup chopped dried apricots 1/3 cup chopped dried figs 1/3 cup chopped pitted dates 1/3 cup dried cherries
Frosting: 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature 1/4 cup butter, room temperature 1 tsp. vanilla extract 2 cups sifted powdered sugar
Directions
For Brownies: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 13x9 inch glass baking dish. Combine 1 cup butter, semisweet and unsweetened chocolates in a medium saucepan. Stir over low heat until melted and smooth. Cool to lukewarm. Beat together sugar and eggs in a large bowl until thick and light colored, about 3 minutes. Stir in melted chocolate mixture and vanilla. Whisk together flour, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl. Stir into chocolate mixture. Stir in walnuts and dried fruits. Transfer batter to prepared dish. Bake about 35 minutes until top cracks and toothpick comes out almost clean. Cool brownies in pan on a rack.
For Frosting: Beat together cream cheese, butter and vanilla in a large bowl until light and smooth. Beat in sugar until blended.
Makes about 2 dozen brownies.
