Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
14 ounce package caramels, unwrapped 2/3 cup evaporated milk, divided 1 package German chocolate cake mix 3/4 cup softened margarine 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans 12 ounce package semisweet chocolate chips
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan. Combine unwrapped caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk in the top of a double boiler over simmering water. Stir until melted and smooth. Remove melted caramel mixture from over water and set aside. Stir together remaining 1/3 cup evaporated milk, German chocolate cake mix and margarine in a large bowl until combined. Stir in nuts. Press half of the cake mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake 6 minutes. Remove pan from oven and Sprinkle chocolate chips over. Pour melted caramel mixture over chocolate chips. Crumble remaining cake mixture over top of the caramel. Bake 15 to 20 minutes until brownies are set. Transfer brownies to a rack and cool slightly before cutting into bars.
Makes about 12 to 15 brownies.
