Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
2 cups all purpose flour 2 cups brown sugar 1/8 tsp. salt 1/2 cup plus 2 tbsp. butter six 1.2 ounce Heath candy bars, coarsely chopped 1/3 cup toasted slivered almonds 1 cup buttermilk 1 large egg, beaten to blend 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 tsp. baking soda
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 9x13 inch cake pan. Mix together flour, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Add 1/2 cup butter and cut into until a coarse meal forms. Transfer 1 cup crumb mixture to a medium bowl. Cut in remaining 2 tbsp. butter. Stir in toffee pieces and almonds. Add buttermilk, egg, vanilla and baking soda to remaining crumb mixture in the large bowl. Mix until well combined. Pour batter into prepared pan. Sprinkle toffee mixture over top of batter. Bake about 35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pan. Cut into 2 inch squares.
Makes about 2 dozen squares.
