Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
4 cups all purpose flour 1/2 tsp. salt 2/3 cup solid vegetable shortening 1 cup sugar 3 large eggs 1 tsp. vanilla extract
Directions
Stir together flour and salt in a medium bowl. Cream together shortening and sugar in a large bowl. Add eggs one at a time. Beat in vanilla. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Form dough into a ball, then flatten to a disc. Wrap dough tightly and refrigerate 2 hours.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease 2 large sheet pans. Roll out dough to 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface. Cut out cookies with a heart-shaped cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on prepared pans. Bake cookies 10 to 12 minutes until light golden. Transfer cookies to racks and cool completely. Frost cookies with white or pink icing if desired.
Makes about 3 to 6 dozen cookies depending on the size of the cookie cutter used.
