Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
2 cups all purpose flour 1/4 tsp. salt 3 tsp. baking powder 3/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup chopped candied citron 1/4 cup dried currants 2 tbsp. chopped candied lemon peel 2 tbsp. chopped candied cherries 1/2 cup chopped nuts 2 large eggs 1 cup milk 3 tbsp. melted solid vegetable shortening
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a loaf pan with wax paper. Sift together flour and baking powder in a large bowl. Stir in sugar, salt, citron, currants, lemon peel, cherries and nuts. Stir together eggs, milk and melted shortening in a small bowl. Stir into flour mixture just until moistened. Pour into prepared pan and let stand 30 minutes. Bake 45 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
Makes 1 loaf.
