Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
2 cups water 1 tbsp. brown sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 cup uncooked quick-cooking grits 1/2 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese 1/4 cup milk 1 large egg, beaten to blend 1 medium apple, cored and cut into wedges 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
Directions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Lightly coat a 9 inch pie pan with cooking spray. Combine water, sugar and salt in a medium saucepan and heat to a boil. Stir in grits. Reduce heat, cover and simmer about 6 minutes until thickened, stirring occasionally. Remove pan from the heat and stir in Cheddar, milk and egg. Mix well. Pour mixture into the prepared pie pan. Arrange apple slices over grits and sprinkle with cinnamon. Cover pan with foil and bake about 40 minutes until set. Let stand 5 to 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm.
Makes about 8 servings.
