2 1/2 pounds venison 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. pepper 1/4 tsp. paprika 2 tbsp. butter 2 medium onions, peeled and sliced 1 tsp. sugar 4 ounces sliced mushrooms 1 1/4 cups canned tomato puree 1 1/4 cups hot water
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a large casserole dish. Cut the meat into serving size pieces. Stir together the flour, salt, pepper and paprika in a large bowl. Add venison and toss to coat, shaking off excess. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add floured venison and cook on one side until golden brown. Turn venison over and add onion slices to the skillet. Cook until venison is golden brown. Transfer the venison and onions to the prepared casserole dish. Add sugar, mushrooms, tomato puree and hot water. Bake about 2 hours until venison is tender.
Serves 6 to 8.
