Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
1 cup butter, room temperature 1 cup plus 1 tbsp. sugar 1 large egg, separated 2 cups all purpose flour 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon 3/4 cup slivered almonds
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream together butter and 1 cup sugar in a medium bowl. Mix in egg yolk. Sift together flour, baking powder and cinnamon. Gradually beat into butter mixture. Press dough evenly into the bottom of an ungreased 11x17 inch jelly roll pan. Beat egg white to blend in a small bowl. Brush over dough. Sprinkle with 1 tbsp. sugar, then almonds. Bake about 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly then cut into 3 inch bars. Cool completely. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
Makes about 3 dozen bars.
