Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
3 tbsp. all purpose flour 2 1/2 tsp. salt, divided 1/4 tsp. pepper 1 1/2 pounds beef cube steak, sliced into 2 inch long strips 3 tbsp. solid vegetable shortening 1 large onion, peeled and thinly sliced 1 large clove garlic, peeled and minced 4 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped 16 ounce can chopped tomatoes with juices 8 ounce can tomato sauce 10 ounce package frozen green peas 1 cup sliced green bell pepper
Directions
Stir together flour, 1 1/2 tsp. salt and pepper in a medium bowl. Add cube steak and toss to coat. Place the shortening in a large pot over medium heat. Add steak and brown on all sides, stirring occasionally. Add onion, garlic, potatoes, tomatoes with juices, tomato sauce and remaining 1 tsp. salt and heat to a boil, stirring frequently. Reduce heat to medium low. Simmer stew about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until meat and potatoes are almost tender. Stir in peas and bell pepper. Simmer 5 to 10 minutes until bell pepper is crisp tender. Serve stew hot.
Serves 6.
