Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1 cup solid vegetable shortening 1 1/2 cups sugar 2 large eggs 2 tsp. vanilla extract
Directions
Combine flour, baking powder and saltin a medium bowl. Cream together shortening and sugar in a large bowl. Beat in eggs, then vanilla. Gradually blend in dry ingredients. Cover dough and refrigerate 4 hours. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly grease 2 baking sheets. Roll out dough 1/8 inch thick. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Place cookies 1 1/2 inches apart on prepared pans. cut out a circle at the top of each cookie with a drinking straw. Bake cookies 8 to 10 minutes until lightt golden. Transfer cookies to racks and cool completely. Decorate if desired. Complete the ornament by tying a loop of thread through hole at top of cookies.
Makes about 2 to 3 dozen cookies.
