1 1/3 cups semisweet chocolate chips 10 tbsp. butter, room temperature, divided 2 cups sugar, divided 5 large eggs, divided 1 1/2 cups plus 3 tbsp. cake flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 3/4 cup chopped pecans 1/2 tsp. almond extract 6 ounces cream cheese, softened 1 tsp. vanilla extract
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease the inside of a 13x9 inch baking pan. Line the bottom of the pan with a square of wax paper. Combine chocolate with 6 tbsp. butter in a small saucepan. Melt over low heat, stirring until smooth. Remove the pan from the heat and let chocolate cool 10 minutes. Beat together 1 1/4 cups sugar and 4 of the eggs until blended. Beat in 1 1/2 cups flour, baking powder and salt. Stir in the melted chocolate mixture, pecans and almond extract. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Beat together cream cheese, remaining 3/4 cup sugar and 4 tbsp. butter in a large bowl until smooth. Beat in remaining egg and vanilla. Stir in remaining 3 tbsp. flour. Spread the cream cheese batter evenly over the chocolate layer. Swirl together the layers with the tip of a knife. Bake brownies about 40 minutes until the top is golden and a toothpick comes out with a few crumbs. Transfer the pan to a rack and cool brownies completely. Cut brownies into squares.
Makes about 2 1/2 dozen brownies.
