3 ounces chopped unsweetened chocolate 2 large eggs 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup softened butter 2/3 cup all purpose flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 cup chopped pecans 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 9 inch square baking pan. Melt the unsweetened chocolate in the top of a double boiler over simmering water. Stir until smooth. Remove chocolate from over water and let cool a few minutes. Whisk in eggs and vanilla. Beat together sugar and butter in a large bowl until fluffy. Beat in the melted chocolate. Stir together the flour, baking powder and salt in a small bowl. Beat the flour mixture into the batter until combined. Stir in the pecans and chocolate chips. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Bake brownies about 25 minutes until a toothpick comes out with a few crumbs. Transfer pan to a rack and cool brownies completely. Cut brownies into squares and serve.
Makes about 1 1/2 dozen brownies.
