Ingredients   (view qty in metric system instead)
Sauce:
24 ounces prepared chili sauce
1 medium red onion, peeled and finely chopped
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/3 cup water
2 tbsp. red wine vinegar
1 tbsp. brown sugar
1 bay leaf
2 cloves garic, peeled and minced
1 tsp. Tabasco sauce
1 tsp. dry mustard
1 tsp. salt

Tacos:
3 tbsp. olive oil
2 medium onions, peeled and chopped
3 pounds ground beef
2 tsp. canned diced green chilies
2 tsp. chili powder
1 tsp. dried oregano
2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
1 cup cooled chili sauce(from above recipe)
taco shells
shredded lettuce
chopped tomato
shredded cheese




Directions
For the Sauce:
Combine the chili sauce, onion, lemon juice, water, vinegar, brown sugar, bay leaf, garlic, Tabasco, mustard and salt in a large saucepan . Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce the heat to low and simmer about 30 minutes until the sauce is slightly thickened, stirring occasionally. Cover and refrigerate the sauce.

For the Tacos:
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and cook about 5 minutes until softened, stirring occasionally. Add the ground beef, chilies, chili powder, oregano and garlic and cook until the beef is browned, breaking up clumps. Stir in the chili sauce and simmer 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Spoon the beef filling into taco shells and garnish with lettuce, tomato and cheese. Serve the tacos immediately with the remaining chili sauce.

Makes about 2 dozen tacos.
