Caramel: 8 ounce package caramels, unwrapped 3 tbsp. heavy or whipping cream 1/2 cup chopped pecans 1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips

For Brownies: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 9 inch pie pan. Combine butter and unsweetened chocolate in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Melt, stirring occasionally, until smooth. Stir in sugar, flour, eggs, baking powder, salt and vanilla until well blended. Spread brownie batter into the prepared pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes until firm.
For Caramel: Combine caramels and cream in a medium saucepan over medium low heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until caramels are melted and smooth.
