Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
1 package active dry yeast 1 1/4 cups warm water(110 to 115 degrees) 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese 2 tbsp. solid vegetable shortening 2 tbsp. sugar 2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. caraway seed 2 2/3 cup all purpose flour melted butter or margarine
Directions
Dissolve yeast in water in a mixer bowl. Let stand 3 to 5 minutes until foamy. Add cheese, shortening, sugar, salt, caraway and 2 cups flour. Beat 30 seconds on low speed, scraping down sides. Increase mixer to medium and beat 2 minutes, scraping down sides. Add remaining flour and mix until smooth. Cover and let rise until doubled in a warm area. Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan. Stir dough 25 strokes. Spread evenly in prepared pan. Smooth top with floured hands. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 40 minutes. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Bake 45 minutes until loaf sounds hollow when tapped. Brush top with melted butter or margarine. Remove from pan and cool completely on a rack.
Makes 1 loaf.
