Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
Crust:3/4 cup butter, softened 3/4 cup powdered sugar 1 1/2 cups flour
Filling: 1/3 cup butter, diced 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk 1 1/4 cups toasted, chopped almonds 1/2 cup hot water 2 large eggs, beaten to blend 1/2 tsp. almond extract 1/8 tsp. salt
Directions
For Crust: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat together butter and powdered sugar in a large bowl until well blended. Add flour and blend until combined. Press the crust mixture evenly into the bottom of an ungreased 13x9 inch baking pan. Bake crust about 15 minutes until lightly browned.
For Filling: Melt butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Stir in cocoa powder until smooth. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in condensed milk, almonds, hot water, eggs, almond extract and salt. Pour the filling over the prepared crust. Bake 25 to 30 minutes until the center is set. Transfer the pan to a rack and cool completely. Refrigerate until well chilled. Cut into bars. Store bars refrigerated in an airtight container.
Makes about 2 to 3 dozen bars.
