Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
Cake: 1 cup water 1 cup margarine 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 2 cups all purpose flour 2 cups sugar 1 tsp. baking soda 2 tsp. ground cinnamon 2 large eggs 1/2 cup buttermilk
Frosting: 1/2 cup buttermilk 1/2 cup margarine 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1 pound powdered sugar 1 cup chopped pecans
Directions
For Cake: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Grease a 15x10 inch jelly roll pan. Combine water, margarine and cocoa powder in a large saucepan. Remove from heat and stir in flour, sugar, baking soda and cinnamon. Stir in eggs and buttermilk. Mix well. Pour batter into the prepared pan. Bake about 20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Transfer cake to a rack.
For Frosting: Combine margarine and buttermilk in a small saucepan and heat to a boil. Meanwhile, Sift together powdered sugar and cocoa in a large bowl. Add hot buttermilk mixture and beat until smooth and spreadable. Stir in pecans. Spread frosting over hot cake. Cool completely.
Cut cake into squares and serve.
Makes one 15x10 inch sheet cake.
