Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
1 pound ground beef 2 tbsp. vegetable oil 1 large onion, peeled and chopped 1 red bell pepper, stemmed, seeded and chopped 1 green bell pepper, stemmed, seeded and chopped 4 green onions, chopped 2 cloves garlic, chopped 8 ounces uncooked lentils, picked through two 28 ounce cans crushed tomatoes 1 1/2 cups water 2 1/2 tbsp. chili powder 2 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tsp. crumbled dried marjoram 2 tsp. crumbled dried oregano 2 tsp. crumbled dried basil 1 tsp. pepper 1 cup grated parmesan cheese sour cream
Directions
Brown beef in a medium skillet, breaking up clumps. Drain well. Heat oil in a large saucepan. Add onion, bell peppers, green onions and garlic and cook 5 to 8 minutes until onion is tender. Add beef, lentils, tomatoes, water, chili powder, salt, marjoram, oregano, basil and pepper. Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, about 90 minutes until lentils are tender. Stir in parmesan. Simmer, uncovered, until chili is thickened, about 15 minutes. Garnish with sour cream.
Serves 6.
