Ingredients (view qty in metric system instead)
Barbecue Sauce: 8 ounce can tomato sauce 1/4 cup chopped onion 1 tbsp. coarse grained brown mustard 1 tsp. sugar 1 tsp. lemon juice 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
Hot Dogs: 8 large hot dogs 4 slices American or Cheddar cheese, cut in half 8 slices bacon 8 hot dog buns, split and toasted
Directions
For Barbecue Sauce: Combine tomato sauce, onion, brown mustard, sugar, lemon juice and garlic powder in a medium saucepan. Heat to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently. Reduce heat, cover and simmer sauce about 15 minutes until onion is tender. Remove pan from heat and set aside.
For Hot Dogs: Preheat grill. Slice hot dogs lengthwise, about 3/4 of the way through, to form a pocket. Place 1 cheese half in the pocket of each hot dog. Cook bacon in a skillet until almost done but not crisp. Drain bacon on paper towels. Wrap 1 slice of bacon around each hot dog. Place hot dogs, cheese-side up, on grill. Cover and grill hot dogs over medium-high heat 8 to 10 minutes until bacon is cooked and hot dogs are heated through, turning occasionally.
To Serve: Dip hot dogs in sauce to coat and place on buns. Serve immediately with remaining sauce on the side.
Serves 8.
